The typical stationary bellows mechanical seal is engineered for long-term, reliable operation under demanding service conditions. This sealing assembly uses a precision-manufactured metallic bellows as its elastic element, enabling superior sealing performance across a wide range of temperatures — from extreme heat to low-temperature environments — and during rapid thermal transients.

To meet the needs of high-temperature and often corrosive media found in petroleum refining and chemical processing, the seal chamber is rigidly connected to equipment via flanged joints, ensuring straightforward, secure installation that minimizes the risk of loosening or leakage during operation. The design incorporates forced-cooling passages positioned to control the temperature around the seal faces, effectively mitigating wear caused by thermal expansion and contraction and thereby extending operational life.

Because the bellows are configured in a stationary arrangement, the bellows body itself does not rotate with the shaft, which reduces dynamic friction, vibration, and mechanical wear while improving overall reliability. Materials and surface treatments are selected to resist corrosion and maintain sealing integrity in aggressive process fluids.
